In recent years, the production of collectible statues has undergone a really significant increase. This is partly due to the entrance
on the market of many new (often Asian) companies that, by acquiring copyrights from the world of Comics or Cinema,
have increased the production of collectors' pieces tenfold, but also to the resourcefulness of individuals and collectors who (by turninig
to professionals sculptors and / or computer graphics designers) have begun to commission pieces with a very low edition size
for a production that we could define as "niche".
This sector of the so-called "custom" or "fan art" statues is cathing
very quickly through social networks and is giving rise to real "rarities", very sought after by all collectors all over
world. Among the many Marvel heroes concerning such private commissions, Silver Surfer is undoubtedly one of the most requested,
both for the great appeal the hero has always exercised on fans and for the remarkable aesthetic impact that can be achieved
through the possible chrome plating of the figure.
The 1:4 scaled Silver Surfer by Razor Studio has been released in 2020, with an editon size limited to 35 samples worldwide; sculpted by Nick Hanzo,
it comes with an electroplated chrome paint (done in a professional factory) and is 52cm tall, with a size of approximately 34 X 66cm (due
to the surf table), thus requiring a rather relevant space to display.
In my opinion, the main features of this statue are the extreme elegance, the beauty of the sculpt and the uncommon aesthetic impact.
Norrin Radd stands on his board with his right leg barely bent and his arms slightly back; his face is rotated with respect
to the body and his hands are half open, in a soft and "supple" pose that gives a great naturalness to the whole.
His physique is sculptural, with well-defined muscles everywhere (especially on chest, abdomen and legs), but without any hypertrophic masses,
thus fulfilling the main traits of the hero, as drawn in the Comics tables. The surf is slightly sloped down and rests on a dark blue colored base,
very rich in shades, consisting of a series of parallel and circular spirals at the top and a wavy shape downwards,
as to represent a sort of "plasma vortex" that the hero crosses with great ease. Anyway, the base is very heavy (thus providing
a great stability to the whole) and, in spite of the imposing dimensions, does not visually take away space from the main figure.
Note the typical parallel incisions characterizing the central part of the surf and extending
along its entire length and, above all, the beautiful ripple effect on it, corresponding to the points of support of the hero's feet.
The chrome plating is done in a workmanlike manner and provides the piece with an incredible aesthetic, which the photos, unfortunately, are able
"to capture" only partially. The somatic traits of the face are very beautiful too, with completely white eyes that increase the feeling of pride and
austere detachment, typical of the Galactus herald. I must admit that, among the many Silver Surfer statues available on the market, this piece
by Razor Studio immediately caught my attention for the incredible elegance of the pose and the sculpt, so that I "pulled the trigger" immediately
when the pre order was open; fortunately, the care with which it was realized was worthy of the best expectations and now, in my humble opinion,
it simply represents one of the finest custom statues available for Marvel fans!
